Bent Creek Experimental Forest

1577 Brevard Rd
Asheville, NC 28806
(828) 667-5261

Description:

One of the oldest such forests in the nation, the Bent Creek Experimental Forest was founded in 1925 and holds almost 6,000 acres of Pisgah National Forest land. Used to explore the silvicultural techniques that could open the forest for use as well as preserve the integrity of its lands and save its native inhabitants, the experimental forest is primarily a scientific research area even today. Despite this focus, the grounds are also partially open to visitors, with three interpretive trails that illuminate the value of the forest and the center's research. While visiting the forest, stop by The North Carolina Arboretum as well: it is situated right next door and holds a number of beautiful gardens as well as hiking trails and art exhibits.
